A real, emotional, beautifully imperfect love story — captured in every detail.
Some weddings feel like a full exhale. The kind where everything — the light, the laughter, the quiet in-between moments — comes together in a way that reminds you exactly why this all matters. The Shanks wedding was one of those days.
From the very first details carefully laid out in the morning light to the very last send-off into the night, this day was full of real. Real tears, real laughter, real love — and I was so honored to be there to document every bit of it.
The Beautiful Details
Before the day truly begins, there's this quiet window of time — the details.
The rings. The invitation suite. The florals. The shoes that took months to find. These aren't just objects; they're the story of how much thought and intention went into this day. Every element chosen with care, every small thing a reflection of who these two people are.
I love arriving early enough to give these details the attention they deserve. Because years from now, these images will be the ones that bring it all rushing back — the way everything smelled like fresh flowers, the weight of that ring in your hand one last time before it became forever.

Getting Ready
There is something so sacred about the getting-ready hours.
Hair being pinned. Vows re-read one last time. Moms with misty eyes trying their hardest to hold it together. Bridesmaids laughing a little too loudly to keep everyone calm. It's chaotic and tender and honest all at once — and it is, without question, some of my favorite work to photograph.
This is where the story really starts. Not at the altar — but here, in a room full of the people who have loved you longest, getting ready to walk toward your forever.

The Ceremony
And then — the ceremony.
I have photographed a lot of ceremonies, and I can tell you that no two ever feel the same. There is always a moment — just one, usually — where the world gets quiet and you can feel something shift. The doors open. The music swells. And the person waiting at the end of that aisle sees you for the first time.
That moment is why I do this work.
For the Shanks, that moment was everything. The kind of eye contact that says I can't believe you're real and you're mine. The kind that makes a room of people let out a collective breath they didn't know they were holding.

Bridal and Family Session
After the ceremony comes one of my favorite parts of the day — portraits.
I know, I know. Portraits have a reputation for being stressful. The family lineups, the formal poses, the pressure to look perfect. But that's not how we do things around here.
My goal with every portrait session — on wedding days especially — is to make it feel as natural and easy as possible. I give you real direction, real prompts, and real space to just be. The result? Images that look like you. Relaxed. Happy. Completely yourselves.
The bridal portraits from this session were stunning — warm light, genuine connection, and a couple who clearly couldn't stop smiling at each other. Honestly, the best kind of subjects.

The Reception
The reception is where the energy shifts — and I am here for every second of it.
Toasts that make you laugh and cry in the same breath. A first dance that moves slower than the song because neither of you wants it to end. The moment someone hits the dance floor and everyone follows. The little kids who stay up too late and the grandparents who haven't danced like that in years.
I move through receptions quietly, always watching for the next real moment. Because the best reception images aren't the posed ones — they're the candid ones. The ones where you forgot I was there.

The Send Off
Every wedding ends, and somehow the send-off always feels like it comes too fast.
There is something so beautiful about a send-off image — all the people who love you most, gathered in the dark, cheering you into the next chapter of your life. Sparklers or petals or just outstretched hands — it doesn't matter. The feeling is the same.
To the Shanks — thank you for letting me tell your story. Thank you for the laughter, the tears, and every quiet in-between moment you let me witness. This gallery is yours forever, and I genuinely hope that every time you open it, it takes you right back to how this day felt.

A note from Kerry
I will never take for granted the trust a couple places in me when they ask me to document their wedding day. It is one of the greatest honors of my work.
If you are planning a wedding in the Indianapolis area and you are looking for someone who will show up for every moment — big and small — I would love to chat. My approach is relaxed, my posing guidance is gentle, and my goal is always the same: to give you images that feel like your life, not a staged version of it.
